Steve Smith is an Australian cricketer who has been one of the top players in the world in all formats of the game. He has previously played in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for teams like Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals. In 2023, he confirmed his return to the IPL after a gap of two years.

KKR (Kolkata Knight Riders) is a franchise cricket team that plays in the IPL. KKR fans are known for their passion and enthusiasm toward their team. With Steve Smith's confirmation of his return to the IPL, KKR fans are surely excited about the prospect of having such a world-class player on their team.

In a video posted on Twitter on Monday, Smith confirmed his return to IPL for the 2023 season. "Namaste India. I have got some exciting news to share with you. I am joining an exceptional and passionate team in India," he said.

After Smith posted the video, his social media handle was inundated with requests from Indian fans, the most notable of which were from KKR fans.

The primary reason why KKR fans want Smith to join their side is that the two-time champions are desperately seeking a captaincy option after Shreyas Iyer, their regular skipper, has been reportedly ruled out of the whole season. Smith is rumored to return to the IPL to serve as a commentator.
