Annerie Dercksen Shines as South Africa Beats Pakistan in ODI Series
South Africa's Annerie Dercksen led her team to a thrilling ODI series victory against Pakistan with an all-round masterclass. She scored a brilliant 90 off 68 balls and took 3 wickets for 59 runs, guiding South Africa to a 16-run win in the second ODI. Dercksen's power-hitting, including three sixes in an over, helped South Africa post a formidable 361-8. Pakistan fought hard but fell short, finishing at 345-5.
South Africa and Pakistan put on a scoring frenzy, combining for 706 runs in the 2nd ODI! Annerie Dercksen was the hero, scoring 90 off 68 and taking 3 wickets, guiding South Africa to a 16-run win. Pakistan's chase fell short, despite a massive 361-run target.
South Africa's batters exploded. Sune Luus and Annerie Dercksen's 102-run partnership, followed by Dercksen and Chloe Tryon's 62, and Nadine de Klerk's blistering 49 off 26 balls, propelled South Africa to 361. Dercksen's 90 was the highlight, supported by Brits' 77, Luus' 57, and Tryon's 37.
It started with Pakistan opting to field, and Tazmin Brits combining with Laura Wolvaardt for 55 runs inside nine overs. Faye Tunnicliffe fell soon after, as did Brits, whose 62-ball 77 had dominated the first two stands, but it was all South Africa after that from the 17th over.
Dercksen had seen the back of Muneeba Ali and Sidra Amin by the sixth over, and at that stage it might have looked like one-way traffic, but Sadaf Shamas and Ayesha Zafar put up the first substantial stand of the innings with 97 from 87 balls, and after Shamas fell for 61 in 62 balls, Zafar added 76 more in 60 balls with Natalia Pervaiz.
Pakistan was on track at 197/5, but the loss of key wickets, including Zafar (75) and Aliya Riaz, in quick succession by Nondumiso Shangase might've changed the game.
Pakistan fought hard, led by Fatima Sana's 52 off 36 and Aroob's 40. But after Sana's departure, they struggled without big hitters. Aroob (40) and Diana Baig (38*) kept the chase alive, but it wasn't enough.
The win gave South Africa the series, following their 2-1 T20I series win. The third and final ODI will be played on Sunday in Durban.
South Africa 361 for 8 (Dercksen 90, Brits 77, Luus 57, de Klerk 49, Aroob 2-49) beat Pakistan 345 (Zafar 75, Shamas 61, Sana 52, Dercksen 3-59) by 16 runs
