Ava Canning ruled out of Women's T20 World Cup

Due to a stress fracture in her back, Ireland seamer Ava Canning will miss the remainder of the 2026 Women's T20 World Cup. She has been replaced by Jane Maguire in the Ireland squad. During Ireland's match against Scotland in Manchester in the tournament's opening match, Canning, 22, had gone 3 for 27 in four overs. Maguire, who is also a seamer, has taken 33 wickets in 39 T20Is and an economy rate of 6.56. Her sister Aimee Maguire is also in Ireland's T20 World Cup squad. After losing their opening game by 40 runs to Scotland, Ireland's next fixture is against New Zealand in Southampton on Friday. They are currently at the bottom of Group 2, which also includes England, West Indies and Sri Lanka.
