Bairstow & Gleeson likely to replace Jacks and Rickelton at MI

Mumbai Indians (MI) are in advanced discussions to bring in Jonny Bairstow and Richard Gleeson as temporary replacements for Will Jacks and Ryan Rickelton, respectively, for the IPL 2025 playoffs—provided MI qualify. Both Jacks and Rickelton are set to miss the playoff stage due to international commitments. Jacks will join England's squad for their ODI series against the West Indies starting May 29, while Rickelton has been called up for South Africa's World Test Championship final preparations, with players required to return home by May 27 . Bairstow, who went unsold in the IPL 2024 auction, brings significant experience, having scored 1,589 runs in 50 IPL matches. He notably scored a century for Punjab Kings in their record chase of 262 against Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2024 . Gleeson, meanwhile, featured in two matches for Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2024 and was the second-highest wicket-taker in the SA20 league earlier this year, with 14 wickets . Currently, MI have 14 points from 12 matches and need to win their remaining two games—against Delhi Capitals on May 21 and Punjab Kings on May 26—to secure a playoff spot. If they qualify, Bairstow and Gleeson are expected to join the squad for the knockout stages .
