BCB eyes Indian participation in inaugural Women's BPL
On Wednesday, a representative of the Bangladesh Cricket Board stated that the board is prepared to welcome Indian women cricketers to the inaugural Women's Bangladesh Premier League, which will take place from April 4 to April 14.
Earlier, the BCB announced that it would finally host the tournament with three teams this season after repeatedly promising to do so in the past.
On Wednesday, BCB officially set the ball rolling for the first-ever WBPL after holding its first coordination meeting at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
Reporters were informed by Rubaba Dowla, chairperson of the WBPL Governing Council and the BCB Women's Wing, that they would be delighted to have Indian women cricketers participate in the competition.
Women cricketers, on the other hand, compete in the Big Bash and The Hundred, in addition to Indian men's national team players, who do not play in any overseas leagues other than the Indian Premier League.
According to Rubaba's announcement, the BCB wants to improve its relationship with the BCCI, which is thought to have deteriorated following Bangladesh's decision to withdraw from the ongoing T20 World Cup due to security concerns.
After the coordination meeting at Mirpur, Rubaba told reporters, "Several international players have already shown interest."
"After that, the teams will get in touch with the players and finish recruiting. "Some famous star players have expressed an interest," she stated.
Rubaba did not rule out Indian players' participation when specifically asked about them.
She said of the Indian players participating in the tournament, "We are open to all."
"There is no country-specific restriction. Whoever shows interest, and whichever teams want to bring such players, they can do so. We will see because it is open to everyone," she added.
"Currently, all arrangements for the Women's BPL are being made. We are meeting on a regular basis. Together, the Governing Council and the Working Committee are planning the best way to carry out the tournament," she added.
The tournament is likely to begin in Chattogram and end in Dhaka, according to the WBPL chairperson. In addition, she confirmed that the WBPL will use a draft system rather than an auction for player selection and that the BCB will limit the number of overseas players in the playing XI.
"The player selection process will follow the draft, and a proper event will be held for it.
She stated, "Each team must have at least two overseas players, and possibly three to four."
Local cricketers are said to have been divided into five categories, with icon players receiving BDT 10 lakh.
'A' category players will receive BDT 7 lakh, 'B' category BDT 5 lakh, 'C' category BDT 3 lakh, and those in the 'D' category BDT 1.5 lakh as remuneration.
