BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia rules out Rohit retirement at Lord's

"No such discussion" has taken place, according to BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia, regarding rumors that Rohit Sharma will not play in the ODI against England on Sunday at Lord's. "There are lot of speculations going on in media about Rohit Sharma's future. In a statement to the media, Saikia stated, "I want to firmly assert that there has not been such discussion that Rohit will be playing his final match at Lord's on Sunday." The BCCI secretary made it clear that Rohit is still a part of India's ODI plans, but she didn't condemn the rumors about the veteran opener's long-term future. "Rohit is a regular member of the Indian ODI team, and as long as he is in the scheme of things, he will continue to represent the country. To put it another way, Lord's ODI will not be his final match," Saikia continued. The clarification comes at a time when India is beginning to think about the 2027 World Cup and there are more questions about Rohit's future in ODIs after a poor run in the current England series. It had been reported that the selectors, head coach Gautam Gambhir, and the opener, who has consistently expressed his desire to play in the upcoming World Cup, had discussed Rohit's future.
