BCCI to review India's bad performance in T20Is after England tour
India's continued downward slide in England has evidently shaken the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), which has now confirmed that it will conduct a review of the team's performance in Ireland and England. Devajit Saikia, the secretary of the BCCI, stated, "We will have a review meeting with the core members of the team to discuss what went wrong in England." The core members of the team will participate in the review.
India has lost two consecutive Twenty20 International series, first in Ireland and now in England. The team lost its first series to Ireland and its heaviest Twenty20 International defeat to England in the third match at Trent Bridge. The five-match series against England only has one game left, on July 11, but the series has already been lost.
"The Indian T20 team's performance is currently being monitored by the BCCI because it has not performed to its full potential in the ongoing series against England. However this is not something abnormal and can happen in international cricket. We think it's just a bad phase," Saikia, who is in Scotland for the International Cricket Council (ICC) annual conference, said.
India are the defending champions in the format, having lifted the title at home. However, the players have had difficulty adapting to international conditions. The much-anticipated debut of IPL Orange Cap winner Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has failed to impress, with the youngster scoring 14, 13, and 15 in his first three international matches.
Shreyas Iyer, who took over for Suryakumar Yadav after the World Cup, is India's captain, but the team hasn't won a game under his leadership. India has lost five of the six games under his direction, with one game ending in a draw. "The review meeting will be strictly about the team's performance and how to address the shortcomings. Nothing else will be discussed," the BCCI secretary said.
In a bilateral T20I series with two or more games, England has not previously defeated India. On the 2018 tour, India suffered its two most recent bilateral series defeats against England (by scores of 2-1 in one-day internationals and 4-1 in tests).
Legends Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will take part in the three ODIs after the T20Is. The BCCI is hoping for a turnaround. Saikia added, "Once the ODI series gets over on July 19 and the team comes back, we will have a review meeting." "Since there is an ODI series, we are hoping that the team will be back in good form."
