Darren Sammy to take over as West Indies' all-format mentor from April 2025

Daren Sammy has been named lead trainer of the West Indies men's group across all organizations. Sammy, who has been the mentor of West Indies' T20I and ODI groups since last year, will assume responsibility for the Test side from April 2025 supplanting Andre Coley, the CWI overseer of cricket Miles Bascombe reported in St Vincent. "It's consistently a distinction to address West Indies in any arrangement or any position. As far as I might be concerned, this news isn't something I was expecting," Sammy said at the question and answer session. "Training was never something I saw myself doing yet I should concede how it's been going, I've fostered a lot more grounded energy and an adoration for the gig... I put stock in processes, something that we've had the option to do in the white-ball designs and, with this new job, I've previously outlined a portion of the region and a portion of the cycles that we'll need to continue for us to find success [in Test cricket]. I'm a patient man and when I believe that cycle and comprehend the necessity from the overseer of cricket, then the arrangement gets right into it. "So I'm truly amped up for the additional obligation and the new excursion, one that I figure myself and my group will be ready for." Under Sammy's administration, West Indies have won 15 of 28 ODIs since May 2023, winning four of seven two-sided series. In T20Is, the group secured four series at home - against India, Britain and South Africa - and lost to Sri Lanka, Australia (both away) and Britain (home) - this isn't counting the continuous series as a detriment to Bangladesh. Generally, they have won 20 out of 35 T20Is played during this period. In Tests, West Indies have lost seven matches, and won and drawn two each under Coley since May 2023, their high point being the throbbing eight-run triumph against Australia in the Brisbane Test in January this year. They have not won even one series in this stage however, and are at the lower part of the World Test Title (WTC) focuses table. "Post our ongoing World Test Title crusade, we will be extending Mr Sammy's job to include all configurations," Bascombe declared. "So when we have Australia the following summer, Daren Sammy will be the lead trainer of all senior men's groups. I need to make a move to say thanks to Andre Coley, who has served well. "He actually needs to finish his Reality Test Title crusade in Pakistan, and he will have our full help. However, once more, I need to salute Mr Sammy. We have been very dazzled with the way that he has graphed a course for our white-ball groups, and he has directed them towards consistency of execution, and that is precisely exact thing we need to find in our Test group." Before he assumed control over the West Indies job, Sammy's authority abilities, both as a skipper and mentor, were fundamental to St Lucia Lords' outcome in the CPL. In 2020, he captained an unfancied Rulers side to the CPL last. In CPL 2021, he was named Rulers' T20 cricket specialist and brand envoy. In 2022, Sammy took over from Andy Bloom as lead trainer and drove them to the Eliminator, where Rulers lost to possible heroes Jamaica Tallawahs. At the PSL, Sammy had trained Peshawar Zalmi in 2020 and 2021 preceding being reappointed to the post for PSL 2023. Sammy had been a pillar for the establishment since the PSL's origin in 2016, and had been quite possibly of the most well known abroad figure in the association.
