Food Poisoning Forces Shubman Gill to Miss Sikkim Clash in Vijay Hazare Trophy
Shubman Gill, India's ODI and Test captain, has been ruled out of Punjab's Vijay Hazare Trophy match against Sikkim due to food poisoning. He arrived in Jaipur on Friday, January 2, and was expected to play, but fell ill late at night and was advised to rest by doctors.
Gill is recovering well and is likely to play Punjab's next match against Goa on January 6, before joining the Indian ODI squad for the New Zealand series.
Gill's absence didn't greatly affect Punjab as they overhauled a modest 76-run target in just 6.2 overs, with Prabhsimran Singh slamming an unbeaten 53. The game was set up by pace spearhead Arshdeep Singh, who returned figures of 5 for 34 - his third five-for in List-A cricket.
This isn't the first time Gill has faced health issues; he's battled injuries over the past few months, including a neck injury and a toe injury during the T20I series against South Africa. Despite Gill's absence, Punjab secured a 10-wicket win over Sikkim, thanks to Arshdeep Singh's five-wicket haul.
