Harmanpreet on T20 World Cup: 'Want to give the country another reason to celebrate this year'


India women's skipper Harmanpreet Kaur believes her group should draw motivation from the India men's group that won the T20 World Cup in June, when they travel to the UAE for the Ladies' T20 World Cup in October. While the men's group brought home the championship following 17 years and lifted an ICC prize following 11 years, the ladies' group is yet to lift the T20 World Cup. They came close in the 2020 release, when they were sprinters up in Australia. "We have been truly roused by the men's group, the manner in which they won the T20 World Cup this year," Harmanpreet said at an occasion in Delhi, around the same time the India's T20 World Cup crew was declared. "They buckled down for this prize and won some extreme matches. We really want to figure out how they kept up with their non-verbal communication for such matches and how they moved toward such games. We're on a similar street now and preparing for our Reality Cup crusade. The group is buckling down and our endeavor will be to offer our nation and fans one more opportunity to praise this year." The ladies' side last arrived at the ODI World Cup last in 2017, when they lost by only nine runs at Master's, prior to going down to Australia in the T20 World Cup last in 2020, and after two years they again lost to Australia, additionally by nine runs, in the last of the District Games in Birmingham. In last year's T20 World Cup, India went down to Australia in the semi-last, by only five runs, and when they were the top choices to win the Asia Cup in the T20 design last month, they were beaten exhaustively by the much lower-positioned Sri Lanka. The T20 World Cup will begin on October 3 in Sharjah with two matches on the first day of the season. India's mission will start off on October 4 against New Zealand, prior to taking on Pakistan on October 6, Sri Lanka on October 9 and Australia on October 13. After the cooperative stage, the main two groups from each gathering will play the semi-finals on October 17 and 18, and the last is planned for October 20 in Dubai.
