Inaugural Women’s BPL shifted to July 2026

A high-ranking BCB official confirmed on Wednesday (March 11) that the highly anticipated Women's Bangladesh Premier League will move to July. The BCB initially stated that the inaugural tournament would take place from April 3 to 15. However, the BCB was forced to postpone the tournament due to sponsors' lack of interest and the absence of a third franchise. The competition was intended to be the first franchise-based T20 competition for women in Bangladesh. This tournament had been a dream of many cricketers in the country for a long time because they believe it will help women's cricket grow professionally. The official confirmed, "We are planning to host the tournament in July rather than from April." The BCB previously stated that the inaugural tournament will consist of three teams that will feature both established and upcoming national cricketers. A player draft system will be used to select local players to guarantee competitive balance, team strength, and depth across all teams. Franchises can also sign professional athletes from other countries. The position of Chairperson of the WBPL Governing Council has been given to BCB Director Rubaba Dowla, who is also the Chairperson of the BCB Women's Wing.
