James Called Up as Plimmer Misses Zimbabwe ODIs with Shoulder Injury
New Zealand has called up Bella James to replace Georgia Plimmer, who was ruled out of the ODI series against Zimbabwe due to a shoulder injury. Plimmer sustained the injury while training during the T20I series, which New Zealand won 3-0. James, who made her ODI debut against Australia in December 2024, has played nearly 100 List-A matches and is expected to fit seamlessly into the team, according to head coach Ben Sawyer.
The ODI series is part of the 2025–2029 ICC Women's Championship cycle and will feature Nensi Patel and Izzy Sharp making their ODI debuts. The three ODIs will be played from March 5 in Dunedin.
Offspinner Nensi Patel and wicketkeeper-batter Izzy Sharp, both uncapped in ODIs, were also named in the squad. Nensi starred with five wickets in the T20Is against Zimbabwe while Sharp made 18 not out and 22 not out.
The three ODIs from March 5 are part of the 2025-2029 Women's Championship cycle. Only Sri Lanka, South Africa, Pakistan and West Indies have kicked off their campaigns in the cycle so far.
Bella James is stepping in for Georgia Plimmer in the ODI series against Zimbabwe after Plimmer's shoulder injury. James was already with the team as batting cover and will now stay on as Plimmer's replacement. She's made her ODI debut recently, playing two matches against Australia in December 2024, and was part of the ODI World Cup squad last year.
Ben Sawyer praises Georgia Plimmer's energy and value to the team, wishing her a speedy recovery. He's confident in Bella James' abilities, citing her 100+ List-A matches and expecting a seamless fit into the squad. Sounds like New Zealand is in good hands with James stepping in.
