Jamie Overton returns as England name squad for first Test against India

England has announced a 14-player squad for the first Test against India, commencing on June 20, 2025, at Headingley, Leeds. Notably, Jamie Overton has been recalled to the Test side, marking his return after nearly three years since his debut against New Zealand at the same venue in June 2022.
Overton's inclusion comes as a response to the unavailability of Gus Atkinson, who sustained a hamstring injury during the recent Test against Zimbabwe. Despite Overton nursing a broken right little finger from an ODI against the West Indies on May 29, he remains under daily assessment by the England medical team.
The squad also sees the return of Chris Woakes and Brydon Carse, both recovering from injuries, and Jacob Bethell, who missed the Zimbabwe Test due to IPL commitments.
