Jon Lewis has stepped down as England Women's head coach

Jon Lewis has stepped down as England Women's head coach following a difficult period for the team, including their 16-0 Ashes whitewash in Australia and a group-stage exit at the T20 World Cup in October.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced his departure on Friday, as they continue their review of the team’s performance.
In a statement, Lewis reflected on his time in charge, highlighting the team's progress in white-ball cricket and the growing popularity of women's cricket in England.
Despite recent setbacks, he pointed out that England had won 83% of their matches in 2024 and that women's cricket had seen record-breaking crowds in 2023 and 2024.
His departure leaves England searching for a new head coach ahead of a crucial period, including the T20 World Cup in Bangladesh and the 2025 Women's Ashes.
Jon Lewis Steps Down as England Women’s Head Coach Amid Performance Review
Jon Lewis has left his role as England Women’s head coach, following a period of inconsistent performances, including a 16-0 Ashes whitewash in Australia and an early exit at the T20 World Cup.
Clare Connor, ECB Managing Director for England Women, acknowledged Lewis’ contributions, particularly in revitalizing the team after the pandemic, leading them to a drawn Ashes series in 2023, and securing eight consecutive ODI series wins. However, she noted the need for a fresh approach as England prepares for a crucial period, including two World Cups over the next 15 months.
Lewis, who had been in charge since November 2022, led England to 52 wins in 73 matches, but recent setbacks increased scrutiny on his position. His third season as UP Warriorz coach in the Women’s Premier League ended poorly, with the team finishing last in the 2025 WPL.
The ECB will now look to appoint a new coach ahead of a busy international summer and the 2026 T20 World Cup on home soil.
