Karun Nair's ton sets up India A's strong start against England Lions.

Karun Nair has made a compelling statement for his return to India's Test side with a commanding unbeaten 186 on the opening day of the first unofficial Test between India A and England Lions in Canterbury. His innings propelled India A to a dominant position at 409/3 by stumps.
Nair's performance is particularly noteworthy as it comes shortly after his recall to the national Test squad, marking his first inclusion since 2017. The 33-year-old, who famously scored an unbeaten 303 against England in Chennai in 2016, has been in exceptional form domestically. In the 2024–25 Ranji Trophy season, he amassed 863 runs in nine matches, including four centuries, and topped the Vijay Hazare Trophy charts with 779 runs in eight innings, featuring five centuries.
During the match, Nair formed a significant partnership with Sarfaraz Khan, who contributed 92 runs, further solidifying India A's strong start. This performance not only underscores Nair's readiness for the upcoming five-Test series against England, starting June 20, but also highlights the depth of talent in India's cricketing reserves.
Nair's resurgence and consistent domestic performances have reignited discussions about his role in the national team, especially as India undergoes a transitional phase following the retirements of key players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
