Kathryn Bryce star in Scotland's comfortable win over Bangladesh
Gabriella Fontenla, a right-arm pacer from Scotland who is 17 years old, bowled her first over and only gave up 11 runs in the next three as she and her teammates laid the groundwork for a significant victory over Bangladesh. Captain Kathryn Bryce picked 1-24 in three overs before returning to smash an undefeated 32-ball 54 in pursuit, while Kirstie Gordon was also prudent, allowing just 21 runs in her four overs.
Bangladesh top-order didn't come through for Nigar Sultana after she chose to bat at the Grange Cricket Club in Edinburgh. Juairiya Ferdous and Dilara Akter, Bangladesh's openers, were run out in the Powerplay, and Sharmin Akhter, the third batter, was run out in the ninth over. Sultana took matters into her own hands, scoring a determined 46 out of 39 shots, five of which were fours, and a six. She added two key stands with Sobhana Mostary and Shorna Akter to push her side towards a total in excess of 120.
That however proved too little as Scotland snared it down with eight wickets and 26 balls to spare. After Scotland lost opener Darcey Carter in the fifth over, Bryce took over to forge two alliances that put her team on course to the win. She added 47 runs off 39 deliveries with Katherine Fraser, and she and Sarah Bryce, who hit the winning four, combined to score 54 runs off 28 deliveries to send her team home.
