Kuldeep Yadav advised rest after groin niggle
Kuldeep Yadav has picked up a groin niggle, which had ruled him out of Delhi Capitals's previous two matches in IPL 2024. Cricket has learned that Kuldeep has been advised rest as a precautionary move, but there is no confirmation yet on when he will be ready to play again.
The injury is presumably not serious, taking into account Kuldeep has been going with the Capitals crew and is at present in Mumbai where they play their next match - against Mumbai Indians on April 7.
Kuldeep played Capital's initial two matches this season - both away games, against Punjab Rulers and Rajasthan Royals - and got three wickets. Yet, he missed their next games in Visakhapatnam, their second home setting: against Chennai Super Lords and Kolkata Knight Riders. While the Capitals won against CSK, they profoundly missed Kuldeep in their 106-run rout against KKR, after which their lead trainer Ricky Ponting said he was "practically humiliated".
The Indian selectors will screen Kuldeep's advancement intently, given he is a leader to take one of the twist openings in India's crew for the T20 World Cup, what begins on June 1 in the West Indies and the USA.
Kuldeep entered the IPL after an effective five-match Test series against Britain, where he bowled more than one match-turning spell. Kuldeep played from the second Test onwards and wrapped up with 19 wickets, incorporating a five-for in the last Test in Dharamsala, where he was named the Player of the Match.
After Sunday's down, Capitals' next match is against Lucknow Super Goliaths in Lucknow on April 12.
