Kurtis Patterson, Hadley lead New South Wales into One-Day Cup final
New South Wales defeated Tasmania by seven wickets with 19 overs remaining, advancing to the One-Day Cup final thanks to Kurtis Patterson's stupendous century and Ryan Hadley's five wickets.
NSW needed to beat Tasmania's score of 274 in 40 overs to move ahead of Queensland and earn a spot in the competition's finale.
The Blues prevailed by seven wickets in 31 overs thanks to Patterson's unbeaten 125 from 89 deliveries. As a result, NSW will face Tasmania once more in the final on March 11 in Hobart.
Patterson scored his third century across all formats for NSW this month, hitting 17 fours and one six while playing as if it were a T20 match.
After Sam Konstas fell early, Chris Green (47 runs off 45 balls) and Josh Philippe (58 runs off 29 balls) also played important supporting roles, leaving NSW 3 for 1.
The chase was significantly ahead of the rate thanks to 103 runs scored by Philippe and Patterson in just eight innings.
Hadley, a seamer, took 5 for 69 earlier, building on his six wickets against Tasmania in the Sheffield Shield last week. Mitchell Owen attacked him in the early part of the match with a flurry of boundaries, reaching 35 off 12 before losing.
Tanveer Sangha, a leg spinner, also got 3 for 457 as Tasmania was bowled out for 274 off the 50th over's final ball.
With 76 runs from 73 deliveries, Charlie Wakim had led Tasmania's batsmen, but the hosts were never able to build momentum for an impressive first innings total.
