Kusal Mendis has been officially signed by the Gujarat Titans (GT) as a replacement for Jos Buttler for the IPL 2025 playoffs. Buttler is set to leave the tournament after GT's final league-stage match against Chennai Super Kings on May 25, 2025, to fulfill national commitments with England's white-ball team, which begins a series against the West Indies on May 29 . Mendis, a Sri Lankan wicketkeeper-batter, joins GT for ₹75 lakh. He brings a T20 strike rate of 137.43 across 167 innings and recently showcased his form in the Pakistan Super League, scoring 143 runs at a strike rate of 168 in five matches for the Quetta Gladiators . This will be his debut in the IPL. GT currently leads the IPL 2025 points table with 16 points from 11 matches, positioning them strongly for a top-two finish. Their remaining fixtures are against Delhi Capitals (May 18), Lucknow Super Giants (May 22), and Chennai Super Kings (May 25) . Mendis is expected to join the squad on May 26, just in time for the playoffs.
