Naseem Shah Fined PKR 20 Million for Criticizing Maryam Nawaz on Twitter
Naseem Shah, the Pakistan fast bowler, has been fined PKR 20 million (approximately USD 72,000) by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for a tweet criticizing Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. The tweet, which was later deleted, read, "Why is she treated like the Queen at Lord's?" The PCB deemed the tweet a breach of Naseem's central contract and social media guidelines.
Naseem initially claimed his account was hacked, but later apologized unconditionally and sacked his social media manager, who has been blacklisted by the PCB. This fine is reportedly the largest in Pakistan cricket history, equivalent to about eight months of Naseem's central contract salary.
