Scott Edwards has officially stepped down as captain of the Netherlands cricket team following the conclusion of the Utrecht leg of the CWC League 2 matches. Allrounder Bas de Leede will take over the captaincy starting with the remainder of the tournament. Transition: Edwards shared the decision with his teammates in a video released by the KNCB (Royal Dutch Cricket Association), stating that it felt like the right time so he could focus on contributing purely as a player. Edwards was put in charge of the team after the first ODI during England's tour of the Netherlands in June 2022, replacing Pieter Seelaar. Netherlands won 24 of the 56 matches Edwards led in, losing 29. The most famous of the wins were over South Africa in Dharamsala and over Bangladesh in Kolkata at the 2023 ODI World Cup. There were some positive results in T20Is too, where Edwards led in 50 of the 86 games he has played, like T20 World Cup 2022 wins over Zimbabwe first and then South Africa - South Africa were knocked out of the tournament with that result. Edwards' Tenure: Took over the leadership in June 2022 from Pieter Seelaar. Led the side in 56 ODIs (24 wins, 29 losses) and 50 T20Is. Highlighted by landmark victories over South Africa and Bangladesh at the 2023 ODI World Cup, as well as T20 World Cup wins over Zimbabwe and South Africa.
