RSA Women trump Matthews' all-round show to level ODI series

In the second one-day international, South Africa defeated West Indies by a comfortable 40 runs to level the series at 1-1. Hayley Matthews' all-around performance (56 and 2/47) was in vain.
Nondumiso Shangase (48-ball 55) and Sune Luus (65-ball 76) scored quick-fire half-centuries to help South Africa win. They put on an 85-run stand in just 69 balls, paving the way for South Africa's massive total of 309 for 9. Afy Fletcher was expensive with the ball, but bagged four wickets to limit the late charge by the visitors, despite Annerie Dercksen and Chloe Tryon combining to smash 65 runs off only 43 balls in the death overs.
West Indies did put up a commendable fight, led by half-centuries from Matthews and Shemaine Campbelle. Most of the batters managed to get starts, but South Africa kept chipping in with regular wickets to ensure that the hosts didn't run away with the contest.
With Chinnelle Henry and Campbelle in the middle, West Indies were well-placed at 178 for 4 at the start of the 35th over. However, once Henry departed on a run-a-ball 39, West Indies struggled to get the late press. Nonkululeko Mlaba snapped four wickets to bundle them out for 269.
