Ruturaj Gaikwad ruled out of IPL with injury now MS Dhoni will lead CSK

MS Dhoni is back at the helm of Chennai Super Kings for the remainder of IPL 2025, stepping in after Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out with a fractured elbow. It's a major moment for CSK, who are currently reeling near the bottom of the table after a poor start—just one win in five games.
Gaikwad picked up the injury on March 30 against Rajasthan Royals but continued to play through pain in the following matches. Scans have now confirmed a fracture in the radial neck of his elbow, forcing him out of the season.
Head coach Stephen Fleming confirmed that Dhoni, who handed over the captaincy to Gaikwad this season, was quick to take up the leadership again. At 43, Dhoni brings a wealth of experience and five IPL titles as captain, and his return could be the spark CSK needs to revive their season.
Fleming also hinted at the possibility of looking within the squad first before considering outside replacements, suggesting that CSK might use this period to groom talent for future seasons.
Their next test? A tough home clash against high-flying KKR on Friday, followed by away fixtures against LSG and MI. With Dhoni back as skipper, all eyes will be on whether he can pull off another turnaround.
