Shimron Hetmyer replaces injured Justin Greaves for second and third NZ ODIs
The injured Justin Greaves has been replaced in the West Indies squad for the second and third One-Day Internationals against New Zealand by Shimron Hetmyer. According to a statement released by Cricket West Indies, Greaves has returned to Barbados to continue his rehabilitation after suffering a back injury that kept him out of the first ODI in Providence.
Hetmyer, who last played an ODI in June 2025, was called back into the West Indies ODI squad for their three-match series against Sri Lanka in June, but he didn't play. In order for him to finish his MLC stint with Seattle Orcas, he was initially left out of their squad for the first threeODIs against New Zealand.
Hetmyer was able to join the West Indies squad because Orcas finished fifth in the MLC's league stage and did not advance to the knockout stage. Hetmyer struck at 136.66 in the MLC this year, scoring 164 runs in ten games.
According to CWI, Greaves will be reevaluated prior to the final two One-Day Internationals against New Zealand and the subsequent two Test matches against Pakistan. Greaves was named player of the series in the final Test he played, a high-scoring draw with Sri Lanka that saw them win their first Test series since 2023 with a score of 180.
CWI said they will announce the squad for the final two ODIs later this week. In the first ODI, West Indies defeated New Zealand by seven wickets to take the series lead. The first three One-Day Internationals are all scheduled in Providence, with Bridgetown hosting the final two games.
