Shreyas Iyer fined for slow over-rate in PBKS' win against CSK

Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain Shreyas Iyer has been fined ₹12 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate during his team's four-wicket victory over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Match 49 of the IPL 2025 season at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on April 30 .
This was PBKS's first over-rate offense of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offenses . As a result, Iyer was fined ₹12 lakh. Additionally, due to the slow over-rate, PBKS was required to bring an extra fielder inside the circle before the start of the 19th over .
Despite the penalty, PBKS secured a crucial win that eliminated CSK from playoff contention. Yuzvendra Chahal's exceptional bowling, including a hat-trick, restricted CSK to 190 runs. In the chase, Iyer led from the front with a commanding 72 off 41 balls, supported by Prabhsimran Singh's 54, guiding PBKS to victory with two balls to spare .
This incident marks Iyer's second slow over-rate penalty in consecutive IPL seasons; he was previously fined ₹12 lakh in 2024 while captaining Kolkata Knight Riders .
