Suryakumar Yadav's 84 leads India to victory over USA in T20 World Cup
Suryakumar Yadav's unbeaten 84 off 49 balls led India to a 29-run win over USA in their T20 World Cup opener. India's top order collapsed to 77/6, but Suryakumar's masterful innings, featuring 10 fours and 4 sixes, took them to 161/9. USA's Shadley van Schalkwyk took 4 wickets, but India's bowlers, led by Arshdeep Singh (2/18) and Mohammed Siraj (3/29), restricted USA to 132/8.
T20 cricket - the ultimate rollercoaster! USA gave India a scare, taking 4/46 and 6/77, but Suryakumar Yadav's masterful 84* off 49 balls turned the game around. Dropped on 17, he made the most of it, leading India to 161/9.
Suryakumar Yadav was on fire ! He smashed 48 off the last 18 balls, including 21 off the last over, dragging shots all over the pitch. India's bowlers, led by Siraj and Arshdeep, did their job well, restricting USA to 132/8 and securing a 29-run win. The moment USA asked the clearest of favourites in any T20 World Cup to bat first, talk revolved around 300. Not without reason: India have crossed 250 three times since the last World Cup, and here they were on a generally true batting surface, a small playing field and an Associate team to take on.
Grandson of Vasant Ranjane who played seven Tests for India, Shubham Ranjane played his last match for Mumbai under the captaincy of Suryakumar. Now an international for USA, he started off the night at former home ground with a dive to save four runs. Then he dropped Kishan for not much damage. When he started bowling, he created a return chance from his former captain, but put it down by his shoe laces.
Mohsin and Harmeet Singh were superb in the middle overs! Mohsin's leg spin kept India in check, and Harmeet's precision got Hardik Pandya out. India's middle order struggled against their bowling and fielding.
What a story! Mohammed Siraj's journey to the T20 World Cup has been nothing short of remarkable. Initially not part of the squad, he got his chance after Harshit Rana's injury and Jasprit Bumrah's sickness. And boy, did he make an impact! His first T20I in two years, and he takes a wicket on the fourth ball, sending Andries Gous packing.
Arshdeep Singh also had a solid start, taking no runs off the bat in the first over and getting Monank Patel's wicket. Siraj kept the momentum going, taking three wickets and restricting USA's batting lineup.
USA's clever field placements and bowling variations paid off early! Abhishek Sharma's golden duck and Van Schalkwyk's 3 wickets in the powerplay over did some damage, taking India from 30/1 to 46/4. The pitch's extra grip made it tough for India's batters.
India 161 for 9 (Suryakumar 84*, van Schalkwyk 4-25, Harmeet 2-26) beat USA 132 for 8 (Ranjane 37, Krishnamurthi 37, Siraj 3-29, Arshdeep 2-18) by 29 runs
