T20 World Cup: Bangladesh Risks Expulsion if They Refuse India Travel
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has warned Bangladesh that they will be replaced at the T20 World Cup 2026 if they don't travel to India for the tournament.
This decision follows Bangladesh's refusal to play their matches in India, citing security concerns, after Mustafizur Rahman was dropped from the Indian Premier League (IPL).
A meeting of ICC Full Members' directors took place, attended by representatives from major cricket boards, including:
Jay Shah (ICC Chair), Aminul Islam (BCB President), Devajit Saikia (BCCI Secretary), Shammi Silva (SLC President), Mohsin Naqvi (PCB Chairman), Mike Baird (CA Chairman)
Representatives from Zimbabwe, West Indies, Ireland, New Zealand, England, South Africa, and Afghanistan.
"The decision was taken after considering all security assessments conducted, including independent reviews, all of which indicated there was no threat to Bangladesh players, media persons, officials and fans at any of the tournament venues in India," the ICC said in a statement following the board meeting.
The meeting likely discussed key cricket decisions, possibly including Bangladesh's T20 World Cup situation.
The ICC has rejected Bangladesh's request to shift their matches to Sri Lanka, stating that independent security reviews indicate no threat to Bangladesh players, officials, or fans in India. Scotland is likely to replace Bangladesh in Group C if they don't participate.
