USA Looks to Continue Winning Streak Against Pakistan
USA is looking to bounce back from their opening day heartbreak against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup. In their previous match, USA stunned Pakistan with a Super Over win, chasing down a target of 160 runs. Monank Patel's brilliant 50 led the charge, and Saurabh Netravalkar held his nerve in the Super Over to secure the win.
They will travel to Colombo from Mumbai and have little time to acclimatise, with less than 72 hours between the end of their previous game and the toss at the Sinhalese Sports Club. Once there, though, they know they have the ability to stifle Pakistan early on, just as they did with India. Injuries to Ali Khan and Shubham Ranjane could potentially cause bowling headaches, but in the disciplined seam of Shadley van Schalkwyk and the right and left arm spin of Mohammad Mohsin and Harmeet Singh, there were other avenues that discomfited India's batters, too.
Pakistan's win against Netherlands was a nail-biter, and they're breathing a sigh of relief thanks to Faheem's heroics. The match exposed Pakistan's fragility and lack of confidence in high-pressure situations, having been knocked out early in previous ICC tournaments. They looked comfortable at one point, but crumbled under pressure, making the win a bit too close for comfort.
Pakistan's middle-order batting has been a concern, with Salman Ali Agha moving up the order and Babar Azam struggling with form. The team's reliance on all-rounders is also a worry, as there's a lack of specialist batting quality to provide a shield. Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali criticized the team's batting, saying they're "selling peanuts" and need genuine match-winners.
Ricky Ponting suggested that Babar Azam should bat at No. 3 to give him more chances to play in the powerplay and clear the field. Pakistan's captain, Salman Ali Agha, acknowledged that they need to handle pressure better, especially in big games.
Pakistan's got their backs against the wall with their group games feeling like knockouts, especially with the India boycott looming. They're aware that any slip-up could be costly. Thankfully, their fielding was top-notch, and bowling was on point, with spin and seam combos working well. They managed to conserve resources, using Saim Ayub and Faheem Ashraf sparingly.
The match is set to take place at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo, Sri Lanka, and promises to be an intense encounter. Pakistan will look to avenge their previous loss, while USA aims to continue their winning streak.
