Yorkshire re-sign all-rounder Will Sutherland for 2026 T20 Blast
Will Sutherland, an all-rounder from Australia, has renewed his contract to play for Yorkshire this summer. He will be available for the duration of the Vitality Blast, from May to July, as well as two rounds of the Rothesay County Championship.
In the BBL, Sutherland, 26, is captain of the state team Victoria and the Melbourne Renegades. He played in the Blast for Yorkshire last season, taking 10 wickets and scoring 208 runs, as well as featuring in three Championship fixtures.
Sutherland stated, "I'm really excited to be coming back to Headingley." He added, "I had a fantastic time with the club last year." "Working with Mags (Anthony McGrath) and the other coaches helped me improve my game, and I developed a strong bond with the other guys along the way.
"I followed the team's progress closely from afar and the way we finished last season was hugely impressive. The momentum and belief that created was clear to see and I can't wait to get back in and get started with the boys again."
Last year, Yorkshire finished last in the Blast North Group, but they have improved their team by signing Moeen Ali on a T20 contract and AJ Tye, another Australia international who is locally qualified. They will offer Afghanistan seamer Naveen-ul-Haq and Netherlands allrounder Logan van Beek as international players for the Blast in addition to Sutherland.
On Sutherland's signing, Gavin Hamilton, Yorkshire's general manager of cricket, said: "Will made a real impression on everyone last year, both in the way he went about his game but also his off-field qualities too. He brings additional leadership to our group ahead of this season and has the advantage of already knowing our environment, including how we operate and the values we uphold.
"I know his return will be warmly welcomed by our members and supporters alike," the coach said. "He was a hugely popular member of the squad."
