'Samson is the backbone of CSK's batting' - Ruturaj Gaikwad
After Sanju Samson's match-winning, unbeaten 87 on Tuesday in Delhi, Ruturaj Gaikwad referred to Samson as the backbone of Chennai Super Kings' (CSK) batting lineup. By eight wickets, it helped CSK defeat Delhi Capitals.
This was Samson's third IPL 2026 score of 80 or higher for his new team, and whenever he crossed 40, CSK won. This is a continuation of his strong form at the end of the 2026 T20 World Cup, when India won the tournament and Samson was named player of the tournament.
In the presentation that followed the game, Ruturaj stated, "On the batting side," adding, "I would say, more than grateful to have Sanju in the side after the tournament he had even in the World Cup and even now." Therefore, it is evident that he is now a rock."
At the start of the World Cup, Samson's defining characteristic, his stillness, disappeared. He was vulnerable to fuller balls when he first sat deep in the crease. In a virtual quarterfinal, he defeated West Indies with a match-winning 97 not out, and things settled down after he overcame the issues. What method has Samson used? After the game, Samson said, "We actually try to find out what works really well for you." He added, "You try to stick to the basics and you trust your hands to do the job in this format."
Therefore, I believe I have been attempting that for the past two to three months. I've been working on my first move a little, and it's coming along nicely." "Yeah, I've been doing it [staying back in the crease] for three to five years, so I think comfort plays a big role in how you think and how confident you are to bat. Additionally, it is unquestionably a tactical move. Therefore, I try to "move around a bit" in accordance with the bowlers and the wicket.
CSK is currently sixth in the table with ten points. However, they are only two points behind the teams in the second through fifth spots. They will try to climb further up the table in their next two games, which are against Lucknow Super Giants, who are in last place, on May 10 and May 15, both at home and away.
