Albie Morkel, the former South African all-rounder, has been appointed as the head coach of Joburg Super Kings for the fifth season of SA20, the franchise announced on Thursday. After leading the team for the first four seasons, Fleming resigned and Morkel takes over. Morkel, who had previously represented Chennai Super Kings in the IPL as a player, has been a part of the Joburg Super Kings franchise since the inaugural season of SA20. Super Kings owner Rupa Gurunath said, "Albie Morkel has been an invaluable member of our coaching group over the years," when announcing his appointment. He understands what the Super Kings stand for, has built strong relationships with our players and staff, and has played an important role behind the scenes in player development. We are thrilled that he will assume this new position and lead the team into the following chapter. KS Viswanathan, Director, Joburg Super Kings, added, “Albie Morkel understands our culture well, having experienced it both as a player and as a coach. His leadership and understanding of the South African cricket landscape gives us great confidence as we move forward.” Morkel stated, "It is an incredible honor to be appointed Head Coach of the Joburg Super Kings," when discussing his new position. I look forward to building on the strong foundations we’ve created together and helping this group achieve its full potential.” Earlier this year, Super Kings finished fourth in the league stage, and then lost the Eliminator.
