BCCI to take action against IPL teams violating norms
Devajit Saikia, the board secretary, stated on Saturday that the BCCI would take "some" action "against teams which are violating the norms" in IPL 2026. When team manager Ravinder Singh Bhinder was caught using his phone around the dugout during a match, and when captain Riyan Parag was caught vaping in the dressing room during another match, Rajasthan Royals were in the news for the wrong reasons twice.
Bhinder received a 1 lakh INR fine, while Parag received a demerit point and was deducted 25% of his match fees.
On the sidelines of India's announcement of its squad for the Women's T20 World Cup 2026 in Mumbai, Saikia stated, "We are exploring some other options about how to bring the teams that are violating the norms."
"Some action will be taken by us. We are looking at the IPL's various rules and regulations regarding team behavior."
Before he was fined, Bhinder had apologized and informed the BCCI anti-corruption unit that the breach was accidental.
Saikia stated, "It is not just players or officials." "In order to safeguard the IPL's reputation, the team must maintain a certain level of decorum. to guarantee that we will need to call and take some action."
Saikia, on the other hand, did not elaborate on the specific offenses for which the BCCI wanted to penalize RR after imposing fines for both incidents thus far.
Saikia was also asked if there would be legal ramifications for the Parag incident because e-cigarettes are illegal to buy, manufacture, or sell in India. Saikia stated that Punjab Police had not communicated with the BCCI since the Parag incident in New Chandigarh against Punjab Kings.
Recently, RR head coach Kumar Sangakkara stated that the BCCI and the franchise had addressed both of those issues and that they "always try to have a very positive healthy culture" within the team.
