Northamptonshire re-signs Nathan McSweeney until 2027 season

After signing an extension to his contract, the top-order batter for Australia, Nathan McSweeney, has confirmed that he will return to Northamptonshire for the following season. McSweeney, 27, leads Northamptonshire in run scoring in the County Championship with 589 runs at 49.08, including three hundreds. He also has 199 runs in seven Blast games, leading his team to top spot in the Central/West Group with eight wins from eight. McSweeney stated, "I'm delighted to be extending my time with Northamptonshire." "The players, coaches, staff, and fans made me feel welcome from the moment I arrived, which made it easy for me to stay." "I am looking forward to continuing to contribute both on and off the field, and I'm grateful for the club's faith in me." I'm excited to be a part of that journey, and I hope Northamptonshire has many successful moments to come." McSweeney, who has played in three Tests, is a rare overseas player these days who can play a full county cricket season and will return to play in all formats in 2027. Darren Lehmann, Northamptonshire's head coach, said: "We're so pleased that someone of Nathan's calibre is deciding to stay with us. He's been outstanding on and off the field and he's a leader within our group who's shown a love for the club. "He has worked on his game and wants to continue assisting other players, which is very beneficial to our culture and player development. It was easy for us to sign him because the players really enjoy having him around and he is a pleasure to coach.
