Brits, Wolvaardt help RSA women clinch ODI series

In the final ODI, South Africa defeated West Indies by 184 runs to win the series 2-1. Tazmin Brits and captain Laura Wolvaardt shared the opening wicket with 184 runs. The series win is all the more impressive considering South Africa lost the opening game. Having fought back in the second game, the visitors started off in blistering fashion in the third with the openers putting on a show.
Wolvaardt responded in style for her first half-century in the series after losing her No. 1 ranking position after more than six months. At the other end, Brits went a step further to make the start count with a century that had four sixes in it. The centurion's departure in the 27th over marked the end of the partnership. Wolvaardt was castled for 75 four overs later, allowing West Indies to finally slow down their scoring rate.
Marizanne Kapp hit an unbeaten 34 but wickets did keep falling at the other end before rain forced an abrupt end to the innings at 278/6 with 25 balls left. That meant West Indies were asked to chase a daunting 288 in just 39 overs. With Masabata Klaas getting rid of both Hayley Matthews and Qiana Joseph in just the second over, any tiny hopes of a fightback vanished.
Wickets then kept tumbling as a ruthless South African unit made light work of the West Indies innings. The hosts were reduced to 10/4 and eventually 40/6 before a mini resistance saw them go past 100. Klaas then returned to break that stand and end up with a four-wicket haul as West Indies eventually folded for just 121.
Brief scores : South Africa 278/6 in 45.5 overs (Tazmin Brits 101, Laura Wolvaardt 75; Afy Fletcher 3/53) beat West Indies 121 in 27.5 overs (Jahzara Claxton 43; Masabata Klaas 4/25) by 166 runs (revised target - 288 in 39 overs)
