Drama at PSL Auction: Former Multan Sultans Owner Ali Tareen Pulls Out
Former Multan Sultans owner Ali Khan Tareen has withdrawn from the Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise auction, citing his commitment to South Punjab. Tareen stated that his involvement with the Multan Sultans was about giving a voice to the region, not just owning a cricket team. He emphasized that any potential return to the PSL would be tied to his passion for South Punjab.
Tareen would not be drawn on what prompted the change of heart.
Cricket understands he arrived in Islamabad with an intention to attend to auction early in the afternoon. Over the past week, Tareen had made no secret of his desire to purchase one of the two teams up for sale today, and crowdsourced ideas for team names on his X account.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will temporarily manage the Multan Sultans franchise for the upcoming season. The auction for two new PSL teams is proceeding with nine bidders, and the successful bidders can choose from six shortlisted cities.
