England named James Coles, Archer in ODI squad for India series
Sussex all-rounder James Coles has been given his first ODI call-up by England in a 16-man squad for this month's three-match home series against India. Also included are fast bowlers Josh Tongue, who has never played in an ODI, and Jofra Archer, who last played the format in November of last year.
Pacers Saqib Mahmood and Gus Atkinson are back after missing the Sri Lanka tour earlier this year. Harry Brook, who is expected to succeed Ben Stokes as captain of the Test team, will continue to serve as the full-time white-ball captain of the ODI team.
Compared to the 15-man squad that toured Sri Lanka in January-February, England have made four changes. Brydon Carse, Zak Crawley, Jamie Overton, and Luke Wood are replaced by Jofra Archer, Atkinson, Mahmood, and Coles. As England prepares for the World Cup in South Africa the following year, the rest of the core remains unchanged.
The three-match series against India begins on July 14 at Edgbaston, moves to Cardiff on July 16, and concludes on July 19 at Lord's.
