Gautam Gambhir set to rejoin India squad in Leeds on Tuesday

India's head coach, Gautam Gambhir, will rejoin the rest of the team on Tuesday in Leeds ahead of Friday's first Test match between England and India.
After his mother's hospitalization on June 11, Gambhir flew back home to Delhi. He was not present when the senior India team and the India A team on tour played a three-day game in Beckenham. Since then, it is known that her health has improved.
The team's preparation was overseen by Ryan ten Doeschate, Sitanshu Kotak, and Morne Morkel, the bowling coach, in Gambhir's absence, along with India A coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar. In Beckenham, the game was played in private.
"There's some quality energy in this group and, you know, that's what you need," Morkel said in an interview with bcci.tv about the game itself and the preparations in general. You need to be confident going into a Test series, and the group needs to have a sense of teamwork, and I believe they have done a great job so far."
After the Sunday match was over, Kuldeep Yadav emphasized the significance of "volume" of overs for the group's bowlers, who had only played T20 cricket for over two months prior to the five-Test series at the IPL.
Kuldeep stated to bcci.tv, "We've played a lot of T20 in the last four to five months, so volume is very important." "All the bowlers are instructed to bowl as many overs [in practice as they would in a match]: the fast bowlers will bowl at least 15 to 20 overs to fully prepare for the Test match, and the spinners will bowl more overs to improve."
Shubman Gill has been appointed the new Test captain after Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli retired from the sport. After the tour game, Kuldeep expressed his confidence in him, saying, "I have seen over the last three-four sessions that Shubman has the same qualities that I've seen in our previous leadership groups." He is totally prepared to lead us.
From the perspective of the first Test, Gambhir and the rest of the team management will have to make quick decisions regarding the playing XI when they return. It has been known for some time that Jasprit Bumrah will only play three of the five Tests to manage his workload, but which three those will be is unknown at this time.
Having said that, the uncapped B Sai Sudharsan and the returning Karun Nair are among the candidates to replace Rohit and Kohli. Earlier in the tour, Nair scored a double-century for India A against the England Lions, and Dhruv Jurel and Abhimanyu Easwaran have also contributed runs.
