I'll try to create an impact if I get an opportunity - Mossadek Hossain
Mosaddek Hossain, an all-round batsman for Bangladesh, said that if given the chance, he wanted to make an impact in the upcoming ODI series against Australia because it could be his first step toward making the 2027 World Cup team.
After a successful domestic campaign, Mosaddek was recalled to the national team after a four-year absence. The right-handed batter is eager to contribute at the international level as well. Mosaddek has been impressive for Abahani Limited in the Dhaka Premier League, the country's premier List A competition, since his last ODI in August 2022.
He has scored 310 runs in six innings at an average of 77.50 and a strike rate of 129.17, including a century and two half-centuries. In addition, he has taken 12 wickets in seven innings.
"According to our structure, domestic cricket is the only pathway through which, if you perform well, you can attract the selectors' attention. We really have no other route.
I tried to be as consistent as I could while playing there, and I tried to stay consistent for as long as possible. I believe that only after performing well did we get this opportunity. I certainly want that for as long as my career lasts, I can continue playing for the national team," Mosaddek told reporters at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Thursday.
"I had to wait a long time and perform well wherever I played. Then came the wait for this chance, which eventually came," he stated. "I believe there are numerous factors at play here, including the opponent, team composition, and other considerations.
"I think the selectors now felt that this was the right time and that they could bring me into the team, so they have done that," he added, taking everything into consideration. "If I were to be selected for the 2027 World Cup squad, I would absolutely be thrilled, and in order for me to do so, I need to perform well in the upcoming series whenever I get the chance. The first step is that. "I can hope that the 2027 World Cup will be a golden opportunity for me if I can do well there," he stated.
Mosaddek said that the selectors had talked to him a lot and told him exactly what he would be doing at No. 6 or 7. He also said that if he gets a chance to play against Australia, he wanted to make an impression.
"Sumon (chief selector Habibul Bashar bhai) bhai very clearly explained my role yesterday (Wednesday). I will try to take on that role if I am given the chance. I will try to play those small roles right because I might have to bat at No. 6 or 7 and possibly bowl five to six overs, depending on what the team needs.
I don't think the statistics or records of those who bat at six or seven are very important. In that scenario, impact is the most significant factor. If I get the chance, I'll try to have that effect, "he said. The second and third ODI matches in the three-match ODI series are scheduled for June 11 and 14, respectively. The Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka will host all three matches.
