India make T20 WC squad change: Prema Rawat for Shreyanka Patil
Shreyanka Patil ruled out of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 with an ankle ligament injury. Injury occurred June 17 vs Netherlands at Headingley. She twisted her right ankle chasing a ball on the first delivery of the 6th over and was stretchered off after bowling just 1 ball.
This is Rawat's first call-up to the national side. She has played two WPL seasons for Royal Challengers Bengaluru and was part of the India A squad that is in England for a six-match white-ball series starting with the first T20 on June 20 in Northampton. Rawat, 24, was part of the Rising Stars Women's Asia Cup, taking eight wickets at an economy rate of 4.27 in India A's march to the title.
Patil was stretchered off the field in Leeds one ball into her spell, after twisting her ankle chasing down a ball that was hit to mid-on. The pain was immediate. She was seen clutching her right leg as the Indian team physiotherapist rushed out and was unable to put any weight on it, prompting the need for a stretcher.
Prema Rawat, 24-year-old uncapped leg-spinner, approved by ICC Event Technical Committee as replacement. Rawat was already in England with India A and joins the senior squad. Credentials: 6 WPL matches for RCB with 3 wickets, 8 wickets @ 9.62 in Women’s Asia Cup Rising Stars for India A, key player in Uttarakhand’s senior domestic title win.
Following Rawat's inclusion in the T20 World Cup squad, she has been replaced by Niki Prasad in the India A T20 squad for the series against England A, and by Minnu Mani in the India A one-day squad for the series against England A.
Shreyanka had just returned from a long injury layoff and played vs Pakistan, 0/17 in 3 overs. India has won both matches so far – vs Pakistan and Netherlands. Next game: vs South Africa, June 21 at Old Trafford, Manchester. Squad options: Prema could debut, or India may go with left-arm spinner Radha Yadav, or add pacers Arundhati Reddy/Renuka Thakur.
