Jane Maguire ruled out of T20 World Cup due to knee injury
Aimee Maguire, an offspinner, is one of the 15 members of Ireland's squad for the upcoming ICC Women's T20 World Cup in England. While Aimee has been cleared to play after recovering from an injury, her sister, medium pacer Jane Maguire, has been ruled out due to a knee injury sustained in the ongoing Cricket Ireland Women's Super T20 Series.
The Irish will compete in their fifth Women's T20 World Cup under the leadership of Gaby Lewis. Since taking over as captain from Laura Delany in 2024, this is Lewis' first time leading a major global event. Lewis, however, will sit out the tri-series involving West Indies and Pakistan as she recovers from an injury picked up during her stint with Lancashire at the ECB Women's One-Day Cup.
In Lewis' absence, vice-captain Orla Prendergast will lead the hosts with the first match commencing on May 28 in Clontarf. In the press conference following the squad announcement, Lewis confirmed her availability for selection by the time the World Cup commences.
Ireland is in Group 2 of the T20 World Cup, along with hosts England, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, West Indies, and Scotland. They open their campaign against Scotland in Manchester on June 13.
