Kishan's Rampage and Arshdeep's Five-For Power India to 46-Run Win Over Kiwis
India demolished New Zealand by 46 runs in the 5th T20I, thanks to Ishan Kishan's blistering century and Arshdeep Singh's five-wicket haul. Kishan scored 103 off 43 balls, hitting 10 sixes and 6 fours, while Arshdeep took 5/51 in 4 overs. Suryakumar Yadav also chipped in with 63 off 30 balls, helping India post a massive 271/5. New Zealand's chase was derailed despite Finn Allen's 80 off 38 balls, and they were bowled out for 225.
India bounced back strongly in Thiruvananthapuram after a disappointing Visakhapatnam game, going back to full strength and putting up a near-perfect show. Ishan Kishan's maiden T20I century propelled India to a massive 271/5, their third-highest total in the format. This dominant performance has surely boosted India's confidence ahead of the T20 World Cup.
Ishan Kishan's explosive performance has put him in the spotlight for the wicketkeeper-opener slot, potentially pushing Sanju Samson to the sidelines. Kishan's left-handedness and aggressive batting style bring a new dimension to India's top order, but his wicketkeeping has been a bit shaky. With Tilak Varma returning for the World Cup, the competition is heating up.
Suryakumar was in quite a mood too, and his fans will have been particularly enthused by the straight sixes he hit off the fast bowlers. Through the protracted lean run he endured in T20Is before this series, his struggles down the ground and against the fuller lengths from fast bowlers had been major points of worry.
New Zealand's chase of 272 was briefly on track thanks to Finn Allen's explosive 80 off 38 balls, his first game back in the national side since March 2025. He and Rachin Ravindra put on 100 off 48 balls, but India regained control when Axar Patel and Arshdeep Singh broke the partnership. Arshdeep Singh turned his game around, taking 5 for 51 after conceding 40 in the powerplay overs, securing India's win.
India's innings was a tale of two halves - a slow start followed by a frenetic explosion of six-hitting. They were 82/2 in 9 overs, but then Kishan and Suryakumar unleashed, scoring 189 off the last 11 overs at 17.18 per over, with 18 sixes! Kishan's century off 42 balls was a masterclass, especially his demolition of Mitchell Santner.
India 271 for 5 (Kishan 103, Suryakumar 63, Hardik 42, Ferguson 2-41) beat New Zealand 225 (Allen 80, Arshdeep 5-51, Axar 3-33) by 46 runs
