Lanning Replaces Deepti Sharma as UP Warriorz Captain for WPL 2026
Meg Lanning has been appointed as the captain of UP Warriorz for the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2026, replacing Deepti Sharma. Lanning, a seven-time World Cup winner with Australia, was signed by UP Warriorz for ₹1.9 crore at the WPL 2026 auction.
She previously led Delhi Capitals to three consecutive WPL finals but fell short each time. Lanning brings a wealth of experience and leadership skills, having won two ODI World Cups and five T20 World Cups with Australia. She has also amassed 952 runs in 27 WPL matches, making her one of the most consistent performers in the league.
Warriorz were led by Healy in 2023 and 2024 before being ruled out of the 2025 season with injury. Deepti was named captain in her absence.
