Mitchell Marsh ruled out of Pakistan series due to ankle injury
Mitchell Marsh has been ruled out of Australia's three-match ODI tour of Pakistan beginning May 30 with an ankle injury. Wicket-keeper Josh Inglis will lead Australia in Marsh's absence.
Marsh suffered the injury while playing in the Indian Premier League for Lucknow Super Giants, for whom he scored 563 runs. He missed LSG's last league fixture against Punjab Kings on Saturday (May 23) and will now stay in Perth for further assessment and treatment, as per a Cricket Australia statement.
While no replacement has been named in the squad for the Pakistan tour, Marsh is racing against time to be fit for the white-ball tour of Bangladesh in June, where Australia are set to play three ODIs and as many T20Is.
"Marsh will remain in Perth for further assessment and treatment until further notice. His availability for the white ball tour of Bangladesh will be determined in due course," a CA spokesperson said.
Marsh is one of many well-known players who won't be in the Pakistan series. Regular ODI skipper Pat Cummins and opener Travis Head are not part of the touring party, nor is Josh Hazlewood, with the troika set to feature for their respective teams in the IPL 2026 playoffs commencing Tuesday (May 26). While Cummins, Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc (who is also not touring Pakistan) have been rested from the Bangladesh tour too, Head will join the squad for that series.
Inglis has led Australia in a lone ODI and three T20Is, each of which came against Pakistan at home in 2024.
The first match of the ODI series will be held in Rawalpindi, with the remaining two games to be played in Lahore.
