Mitchell Starc Poised for Big Bash Returns in Vibrant Magenta
Mitchell Starc is making a comeback to the Big Bash League (BBL) after an 11-year hiatus, joining the Sydney Sixers for the 2025-26 season. The Australian fast bowler, who recently retired from international T20 cricket, is expected to link up with the team after the Ashes series, pending fitness. Starc, a supplementary player, has big shoes to fill, but his experience and skills are sure to boost the Sixers' chances.
Starring with both bat and ball across the summer for Australia, Starc was awarded the Compton-Miller Medal as player of the series in light of his lethal 31 wickets and pivotal 156 runs across the five Tests.
When quizzed on whether or not he would feature in the next 2027 Ashes Series in England, the 35-year-old Starc said his next focus – outside of a round or two of golf – was on the Big Bash.
Starc has played 10 BBL matches for the Sixers, picking up 20 wickets at an economy rate of 7.92 and a strike rate of 11.3. His best figures are 3/17. The veteran pacer is excited to be back, stating, "It's great to be back in magenta after five seasons away from the Big Bash".
