Nahid Rana's Maiden Fifer Leads Bangladesh to 8-Wicket Win Over Pakistan
Nahid Rana's stunning 5-wicket haul and Tanzid Hasan's unbeaten 67 led Bangladesh to a crushing 8-wicket win over Pakistan in the opening ODI. Rana's fiery pace dismantled Pakistan's batting lineup, with figures of 5/24, while Tanzid's aggressive batting sealed the deal for Bangladesh. This was Bangladesh's first ODI win over Pakistan since 2018, and Pakistan's lowest total against Bangladesh in ODIs.
Tanzid Hasan's explosive 67 off 42 balls, laced with 7 fours and 5 sixes, anchored Bangladesh's chase. Najmul Hossain Shanto's 27 added to the momentum. Their 82-run partnership for the second wicket sealed the deal, making it Bangladesh's shortest ODI win over Pakistan (35.5 overs).
Pakistan's inexperienced lineup struggled to cope with Nahid Rana's pace. He dismissed Sahibzada Farhan and Shamyl Hussain with his bouncers, and Maaz Sadaqat fell to another short ball. Pakistan's bright start fumbled, slipping from 41/0 to 55/3 in just 14 overs.
There was some hope when the experienced pair Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Agha got together. Rizwan even struck Rana for a superb boundary, before Rana sucked him into a drive and had him caught behind. Salman's fall next was emblematic of Pakistan's dismissals on the day - fending a short ball to short leg, where Tanzid completed a juggling catch.
Rana kept pounding in with thunderbolts for two more overs, creating couple of chances, and also bowling a 148.6kph delivery at Faheem Ashraf.
Pakistan's innings ended abruptly in the 31st over, with Mehidy Hasan Miraz taking 3 wickets and Taskin Ahmed & Mustafizur Rahman adding to the tally. Faheem's 37 was the only resistance. Bangladesh's chase was explosive, with Tanzid Hasan and Shanto hammering the Pakistan bowling.
Tanzid Hasan and Shanto were on fire! 💥 Bangladesh's openers smashed Pakistan's bowling, scoring 81 for 1 in 10 overs. Tanzid's sixes and Shanto's fours were the highlight. Tanzid struck two more sixes off Abrar and Agha, while reaching his fifty off 32 balls. Shanto then edged Wasim to the wicketkeeper, but that wicket was a mere consolation for Pakistan, who had been thorougly outplayed.
Nahid Rana was unstoppable! His pace and bounce left Pakistan's batters struggling, picking up a wicket in each of his first five overs. Rana's spell of 7 overs had a huge impact, reminiscent of his performance in the Rawalpindi Test where he took 4 wickets.
Bangladesh 115 for 2 (Tanzid 67*) beat Pakistan 114 (Faheem 37, Farhan 27, Rana 5-24, Mehidy 3-29)
