PSL 2026: Teams Submit Two Playing XIs, Choose One Post-Toss

The Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026 has introduced a new rule allowing teams to submit two different playing XIs before the toss, giving captains more flexibility. Each lineup must include 11 players and up to 4 substitute fielders. After the toss, captains must finalize one of the two submitted lineups, and no changes can be made to the selected team before the match starts.¹This rule change aims to add a strategic layer to the game, allowing teams to adapt to the toss outcome and pitch conditions. So the rule's official. Clause 1.2.1 gives captains the flexibility to submit two different XIs, including 11 players and up to 4 substitutes, and choose one after the toss. The selected lineup can't be changed without the opposing captain's consent, keeping things fair and strategic. Tosses can play a significant role in this part of the world in night matches as a result of dew. The ball often gets wet and difficult to grip for the spinners, making them ineffective in the second innings. This change in the playing conditions is expected to provide a level playing field - a team batting first can add a fast bowler instead of a spinner while a team batting second can look to add depth to their batting. There were no signs of dew in the first match of the season however because of the wind throughout the day and cloud cover.
