Punjab crush MP to enter VHT semis
An emphatic all-round performance by Punjab saw them decimate Madhya Pradesh by 183 runs to enter the semi-finals of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Prabhsimran Singh (88) and Harnoor Singh (51) shared an opening stand that totaled 116 runs when they batted. Anmolpreet Singh, Punjab's third batter, then scored 70 as the team continued to build on the strong foundation laid by the openers.
The innings was then completed by Nehal Wadhera (56 runs) and Ramandeep Singh (24) as Punjab scored 101 runs in the final 10 overs to finish on 345 for 6. With figures of 1 for 39 from his quota of 10 overs, Aryan Pandey was MP's standout bowler.
MP lost Yash Dubey cheaply because they had a hard target. The innings was stabilized by Shubham Sharma and Himanshu Mantri, but the latter retired with the score at 45. MP went from 45 for 1 to 83 for 6 after that. This included taking Venkatesh Iyer's wicket for a duck after two balls.
For MP, Rajat Patidar's (38) and Tripuresh Singh's (31) top scores were too high. As Punjab roared into the last four, Sanvir Singh went 3 for 31 and Gurnoor Brar, Krish Bhagat, and Ramandeep each scored twice. On January 16, they will now face Saurashtra in the second semi-final.
