Quentin Sampson Earns T20 World Cup Call-Up as West Indies Name Squad
The West Indies have announced their 15-member squad for the T20 World Cup 2026, with Quentin Sampson earning a surprise call-up and Alzarri Joseph missing out due to injury.
Sampson, who made his T20I debut against Afghanistan, was selected on the back of his impressive performance in the 2025 Caribbean Premier League, scoring 241 runs at a strike rate of 151.57 for Guyana Amazon Warriors.
The squad is led by Shai Hope and includes experienced players like Jason Holder and Johnson Charles, who were part of the West Indies' victorious campaign in India in 2016. The team will face South Africa in a three-match T20I series starting today, before heading to the T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.
West Indies enter the T20I series against South Africa following a 2-1 loss against Afghanistan, during which several regulars like captain Shai Hope, Roston Chase, Akeal Hosein and Sherfane Rutherford were absent due to their commitments in the SA20. After the opener in Paarl, the series moves to Centurion and Johannesburg, which will host the remaining two games on January 29 and 31, respectively.
