Rohit Sharma Unveils T20 Mumbai League Women's Trophy
The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has launched the inaugural T20 Mumbai Women's League, alongside the return of the T20 Mumbai League's fourth season. The women's league will feature three teams, operated by PRS Infraprojects LLP, Roadway Solution India Infra Ltd, and World Star Sporting Private Limited. Rohit Sharma, the league's ambassador, unveiled the trophies for both tournaments, emphasizing the importance of providing opportunities for young cricketers.
MCA President Ajinkya Naik highlighted Mumbai's strong cricketing culture, saying the league provides a platform for talented players to showcase their skills. Sayali Satghare, Mumbai all-rounder, welcomed the initiative, stating it will help young girls dream big and represent Mumbai and India.
The MCA is yet to release the schedule for either tournament. It's likely the fixtures will be out once the full IPL schedule is announced. Currently, the IPL schedule has been announced only for the first 20 matches, which will be played from March 28 to April 12. A partial schedule was announced because elections are set for many states, including West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Assam, where three teams play their home games. The rest of the IPL fixtures will be out once the Election Commission of India finalises the dates for the elections in those states.
The men's T20 Mumbai League's last season was a thrilling ride, featuring top players like Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube, and Shreyas Iyer, alongside rising stars Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Musheer Khan. Mumbai South Central Maratha Royals, led by Siddhesh Lad, took home the title, defeating SoBo Mumbai Falcons, captained by Iyer, in the June 12 final at Wankhede Stadium.
Rohit Sharma's thrilled with Mumbai cricket's progress, crediting T20 Mumbai League for nurturing young talent. He's stoked about the women's edition, saying it's getting bigger. "Credit to MCA for pulling it through," he adds.
