Shahidi handed one demerit point for running on pitch during Chennai ODI

Hashmatullah Shahidi, the captain of Afghanistan, has received an official reprimand and one demerit point for a Level 1 violation of the ICC Code of Conduct during the third One-Day International against India on June 20 in Chennai. Article 2.10.10, which refers to a "batter causing deliberate or avoidable damage to the pitch," was found to be violated by Shahidi. His first offense in 24 months was this. Before receiving an official warning in the 31st over, Shahidi was given two unofficial warnings for running on the protected area of the pitch while batting. In the 40th over, he was found guilty of repeating the offense, which cost Afghanistan five runs. The sanction proposed by match referee Ranjan Madugalle was accepted by the Afghan skipper, who acknowledged the offense.
